History by Candlelight at the Harpers Ferry Christmas House

The Christmas spirit infuses every corner of the 1927 home originally owned by Storer College alumni William & Inez Saunders, who both loved the holiday. At this 90-minute program, you’ll learn the couple’s inspiring story while enjoying holiday desserts and warm beverages around the fireplace. William was the longest serving Black teacher at Storer College, while Inez taught at the local grade school. Lynn Pechuekonis, author of the biography, Man of Sterling Worth, will lead you through the Saunders’ fascinating history with Storer and their impact on Harpers Ferry. Among the vintage holiday items on display will be the Saunders’ 1920s-30s Christmas card collection.
